You can easily translate your sewing terms using this sewing term dictionary – English-Danish and Danish-English
If you are using the Danish Onion patterns, you will sometimes have a pattern with Danish instructions. If you are not fluid in Danish, the below list of sewing terms should come in handy as it enables you to translate Danish sewing terms to English. Or vice versa if you are from Denmark and use an English language pattern.
I have made this list of translated words as complete as possible, but if you are missing terms in the English-Danish sewing dictionary below, please let me know, and I will add them.
By clicking the language above the column, you sort the list alphabetically by Danish or English, respectively.

You’re welcome, Jennifer – let me know if there are missing terms! 😉
I read a comment a blog that a sleeve head in Danish is called a sleeve fish. Please enlighten me, Thanks!
Hi Angelo – sorry about the (very) late answer, however, you’re right. A sleeve head is called an ‘ærmefisk’ in Danish – ærmefisk means sleeve fish. 😉
Looking for the right term for ‘overskæringer’ and ‘taljeindsnit’. Can you help?
Hi there – taljeindsnit would be waist darts. I actually don’t know about overskæringer – tried to research but came up blank. Sorry. 😊
Thanks for a quick reply. I posted a new comment below further to ‘overskæringer’
This is in the description, “Geometriske overskæringer og farveblokke gør den kjole til noget helt unikt” and here is a link to a picture of the dress: http://giomio.dk/index.php/magnella-dress.html
the description is further down on the same page.
If it’s for a translation, I would simply say ‘Geometric cuts and colour blocks’. Is that helpful?
Very much, thanks again.
Tak for en fin liste. Hvad med oversættelser for hægte, malle, trykknapper og tryklåse? 🙂
Hvad med “at hæfte inde”
Mener du måske at hæfte ender? Eller kan du give mig en større del af sætningen? 😉
